Three years ago, Tinie Tempah released Disc-Overy, his first album. It was a record that saw the British rapper shoot to stardom with tales of his struggle to get there. Since then, Tinie has continued to grow, with an appearance at the London Olympic Games opening ceremony in 2012 and a new album recently out.
Cut to nearly one year and 1,236 miles from where Tinie performed at the ceremony and groups of tanned and brightly dressed teenagers are gathering around a poolside stage as the sun sets. An unusual occurrence on the island known for its parties that start as the sun is coming up in the morning.
Outside, the night kicks off with DJ’s warming the crowd up. After an hour or so, Tinie suddenly appears on stage and things really get going. Being in the party capital of the world, you might expect the 24-year-old to be slightly daunted but this is not the case at all.
As expected, Tinie performs his biggest hits from his so far, short career, including the song he claims made it all happen, ‘Written in the Stars’ at which point, the crowd from all around light up their smartphones in support.
The night doesn’t end there though. In true Ibiza style, the crowd continues on to party well into the morning at the club Es Paradis. When these teenagers eventually awaken in the afternoon, the songs of Tinie Tempah will no longer be just another tune on the radio, they will be an anthem to their 2013 summer in Ibiza.
