It has certainly been a busy year for Brit rockers, You Me At Six. With their third album ‘Sinners Never Sleep’ reaching number three in the UK album chart and going gold, add to that a sell-out UK tour, appearances at Download, Reading and Leeds Festivals oh and the small case of recording a song for new rollercoaster ‘The Swarm’ at Thorpe Park. But the boys from Surrey haven’t stopped there. Never ones to fade out quietly, the five decided to end their colossal year with one final, very special tour date exactly eight months after the main leg of the ‘Sinners Never Sleep’ tour ended, by playing Wembley arena in their ‘Final Night of Sin’.
Not only did the band manage to secure Wembley Arena, forcing the X Factor up to Manchester to film their live final, they also got together with two great support bands with We Are The Ocean opening and Deaf Havana following after.
The show kicks off with a half hour set from We Are The Ocean before a quick break which is followed by Deaf Havana.
Then comes the main event.
The band kick off with latest hit ‘The Swarm’ following a firework filled intro that Guy Fawkes would be proud of.
As the first few notes of the song starts, screams erupt from thousands of girls and boys alike. From here on in thing only get better.
The show includes songs from all three albums in a way that show just how far these five boys from Weybridge have come.
They make every song personal with a dedication to people they have lost along the way or the 16 and 17-year-olds in the audience who are the same age as them when they started out. “Now we’re going old school!” pronounces frontman Josh Franceschi before the band produce a knock out version of ‘Take Off Your Colours’ from their first album of the same title.
As always, Josh gets the crowd going in his signature cheeky manner. During the opening chords of ‘Reckless’, the 22-year-old demands that the audience “get your kit off” and swing it around their heads.
The show wraps up with perhaps You Me At Six’s most well-known song, ‘Underdog’ which is accompanied by yet more fireworks and screaming and then that is it. Then the thousands of young fans head home to sob into their pillows and eagerly await the next album said to be released in within the next two years.
5 out of 5 stars.
